The Early Years Foundation Stage
Here at The Oaklands, we pride ourselves on providing a high-quality provision of care and education at the heart of Acocks Green. We follow projects to ensure progression and excellent learning, whilst valuing the children’s own interests. We understand that children learn best through active, playful and sociable learning. Children thrive here and enjoy school.
Our Early Years Vision
At The Oaklands Primary School, we believe that every child should leave Reception and enter Year 1 as learners who are:
Resilient
Active
Sociable
Good communicators
Explorative
Within our setting, we employ adults who are nurturing and value the children. They are able to help build relationships through being effective partners in play.
Nursery
Children will be able to attend Nursery at The Oaklands Primary School from September after their third birthday. They will benefit from a school-based setting in the main school building, which is perfect for those who are in catchment for a school place the following year. They will be taught by a Qualified Teacher in a class of around 25, supported by a range of qualified practitioners.
Children are expected to be fully toilet trained before they start.
Mornings: 8.30 – 11.30
Afternoons: 12.30- 3.30

They will learn to read and write sentences in phonics and literacy lessons, and will learn counting, simple calculation and a variety of Maths skills. All children are provided with a free hot school dinner. Children will need school uniform, book bag, PE kit, wellies and drink bottle.
